When looking for the best gaming laptop, size and budget are the most important factors: only laptops of 17 and 18 inches can house 2 GPUs for a CrossFire/SLI setup, and they can be extremely expensive.

  • 18″: can house high-end GPUs, SLI/CrossFireX configuration possible, weight of at least 10 lbs (4.5 kg)
  • 17″: can house high-end GPUs, SLI/CrossFireX configuration possible, weight of at least 8.5 lbs (3.9 kg)
  • 15″ and 16″: can house a single high-end GPU, typical weight 7.5-9 lbs (3.5-4 kg). Models with less powerful graphics cards are usually lighter, around 6-6.5 lbs (2.7-3 kg).
  • 14″: can house a single mainstream GPU, typical weight 5.5 lbs (2.5 kg). This size is not very popular, because 14″ laptops aren’t much lighter than 15.6″ ones, but there are some interesting gaming-capable laptops at this size.
  • 13″, 12″ and 11″: can house a single mainstream GPU, typical weight 3-4.5 lbs (1.4-2 kg).
  • 10″: not much gaming at this size. In addition to the small screen size and low resolution, 10″ netbooks can only have integrated graphics; the faster options (Nvidia ION, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4225) can be OK for old games, but no much more. Typical weight 3 lbs (1.4 kg).
